I just bought a new 2019 midnight black edition duramax with Goodyear Duratracs . I have vibrations in steering wheel and seat at 65mph and over . I went to dealer tried balancing them twice, first time they said they balanced out sent me on my way but it still has vibrations , second time I demanded road force balance and the service manager called and said they tried fr balancing them And they are out of spec now and couldn’t get them to balance . So now none of them are balanced and they still have no answer for me when I’m getting new tires ,been a few days since I’ve been there and I’m getting impatient.

There is more than one issue going on that can appear to be the same by a lot of people. They are some tire flat spotting happening from trucks sitting too long at Flint. There is a steering gear instability that is happening where the steering wheel shakes after hitting minor bumps in the road. Dealers should have service bulletin on how to repair these issues by early next week at the latest. #iworkforGM
Well the flats spots I don't think are the issue in my case since the dealer replaced all 4 tires. Please keep us posted when this fix is available cause this is getting old. I'm reminded everyday I drive it. When a truck is listed for close to 80k it should not have these issues.

Loosen and then tighten all lugs to 140 lb*ft. I've noticed that my truck develops vibrations after being at certain dealers where the goons use an impact wrench instead of a torque wrench. Resetting the lugs to spec usually smooths things out.

I've said it once, I'll say it again.... these trucks do not LIKE Goodyear tires. Regardless of whether its GM's fault or Goodyear's, if you can afford an 80k truck.... you can afford to get better quality tires. Their reasoning for using Goodyear from the factory is probably because Ford already has the Michelin contract for their Super Duty trucks.

I agree I have been running Michelins on all my vehicles for years I have tried other brands always came back to Michelin I get the best ride and mileage out of them than any other tire

I can afford to buy new tires but why would one do that after buying an 80k dollar truck. The dealer will have to fix it. It is their problem. My 16 lml had 3 sets of Goodyear sra tires. Truck drove perfect no shake. By no means am I saying you are wrong about the tires.

So even after getting Michelin Defender LTXs put on at the dealer, I still had s pretty good steering wheel shake at 65mph and up. After much frustration, I took it to a friend who owns a small service station and asked him to check the road force and balance as required. They determined the road force was at the optimum placement and there was no way to reduce that. This surprised me with brand new tires since the FL was at 31lbs and the FR was at 27lbs. They did have to add a few sticky weights to improve the balance. It didn't seem like much weight (.75 oz on FL, and .50 oz on FR and RR) and I was skeptical it would make any improvement. Well it did the trick and the truck drives like it should have from the very beginning after driving it off the dealer lot. How GM is launching these new $79k trucks that drive like crap is beyond me. Seems like a good way to lose previously very loyal GM customers.

I really don't see this issue, maybe my truck has a later build date? Or maybe the AT2's are just balanced better who knows. As far as GM launching 79K trucks with issues, ever heard of death wobble? Yep those 80k,90k, and 100k Ford/Ram trucks being sold still have issues with death wobble.

As I said, I have mostly resolved my vibration issue after much frustration and hope by explaining what I did can help others out that are experiencing similar issues. And yes, I have heard of those issues with the other truck makes, but I don't think that justifies the problem. I have owned GM vehicles my whole life, and had yet to experience the problems that I have had with the 2020. I'm not sure the point of your reply......was it since Ford and Dodge $70k+ trucks drive like crap, that its okay for GM to follow suit???

Not every truck is having these issues after swapping tires, mine is perfectly smooth after switching tires. These are machines as with all machines they all have quirks and issues. People are quick to say "might lose some loyal GM customers because my 79k truck has issues". While I agree these trucks are expensive and should bee relatively trouble free, its not like the grass is greener on the other sides. Death wobble on Ford and Ram is still very much a thing, Ford has random issues with their ABS systems that sends their trucks into limp mode and that issue has been a thing going on since 2011 I believe.

My truck is not "perfect" had a P0184 code popup and is going into the shop Monday.

Well since I've never had any luck with road force balanced tires I decided to take my dealership out of the equation and have an outside source balance them. I went to a heavy truck goodyear tire shop and asked for them to put a standard type balance on my wheels and tires. The guy at Goodyear told me he would never road force balance those type of tires. So I explained to him my issue and asked if he could put a static type balance on them and he said no problem. He checked the balance the way they were. They were all out from 2.5 to 5.5 ounces out. I think that's what he said. He removed the existing weights and static balanced them to 0.00. The problem is now fixed. The truck is smooth as glass at all speeds. I guess the tires were not the issue.

I have worked at several different dealerships and I can tell you for sure that they are not immune to poor workmanship. Most of the people I have worked with there are good at their jobs but every on had a loser or two.

I used to have a VW Rabbit that I put large front tires and wheels on because after all, 80% of the weight of that car was on the front tires. I must have had those tires and wheels balanced 20 times by every possible method available a the time. I finally got someone to do it on the car. That fixed it until I took a tire off and put it back on. Then the vibration was back. I never did find out what the deal was but if the wheel didn't go back on the car exactly as it had come off it would vibrate.

I'm sure there was something about the way the wheels mated with the brake disk or the way the lug nuts located them but what ever it was it took real dedication to make them run true.

Tire balancing may seem like a fairly simple thing but some times there is a problem that just defies analysis.

I am having this issue too and Im going crazy!

I have a 2020 2500 Denali Duramax with 2,000kms . From Day 1 I switched the tires to the Nitto ridge grapplers 35x12.5r20 so I did not set a stock benchmark for the ride quality
As a side note I just traded in my 2019 2500 duramax denali with the same tires but a bit smaller 295/60r20 and the truck drove just perfect! I have 2 more 3500 DRW in the WT model, one a 2017 and the other a 2017. I am mentioning this because I think I have a good feel for how the trucks should be expected to feel on the road

The 2020 truck had a shakey steering wheel at many different speed both slow and highway along with vibrations and just way too much road feed back in my opinion not to mention that dreaded steering column clunk. It also just does not feel solid like the 19 and previous did.

I went back to the tire installer for a re balance and then I went to the dealership to have the alignment checked to try and start trouble shooting the problem. After that it was still not fixed so the tire guy actually put a brand new set of ridge grapplers on convinced that there must have been a bad tire... It helped a bit but the shake was still there.

I went to the dealership again and he agreed to put the truck back on the alignment rack and check over all steering parts to make sure everything looked "good". He went as far as swapping my wheels with another new stock 2020 to see if it was the tires creating the issue and it showed the issue was still there. After all of that he found the bulletin to re program the digital steering. It has helped a bit but the steering is still less than ideal with a terrible feel and a slight shake still.

Does anyone else still have this problem and has anyone found any solution yet. I can not believe we are moving backwards with these kinds of things. It is driving me absolutely crazy and there dealership does not know what to do.

These new 2020 trucks seem like they are sensitive in the tire department. There is also supposedly a calibration fix of some sort in the works. Only thing I can recommend is find a tire that balances very well, I.E. no weights.
