:thumbSo, I get on here frequently and always am envious of these personal threads that everybody makes. Build threads for the most part. Now I don't take that many pictures for a detailed build thread so that's why its not a specific build thread but more of a history and where am I now thread. Mainly for me to keep up with my truck, but will be adding modifications as I go and taking more pictures. ( I promise!)

Here's my LBZ as she sits now.

Here's a directory of modifications, repairs, or general bs to date on the truck and the links to the post :thumb

Well i plastidipped my nerf bars this weekend. Will get pictures up a bit later, also i installed my dhd brace again to see how it feels to launch at my daily driver height and it just wasn't good enough for me to justify running it all the time at my leveled height. Granted my cv angles arent terrible, i just don't wanna tske the risk of breaking something because of over confidence in a brace. I will save the brace for my days at the track this summer when I have my torsion bars lowered. Also when i turn left the brace really rubs my lca bolt. I already have trimmed a bit off but will need more off to completely clear.

Anyways, i am thinking about making my own cai from the stock box to the mouthpiece. Id like to use aluminum as it will increase turbo sound and i have been researching and not everybody had intake temps increase. If it does, I'll only have a few dollars into and can always go back to my stock intake. What do y'all think?

#87 ·
Link a post or instructions on this CAI setup youre referring to.

I pulled my heads and ported them last week while I was replacing my head gaskets, studded by heads, and cleaned all the soot from the intakes, also I plugged the intake with a 2 inch test plug in place of the resonator and that seemed to make my turbo whistle slightly louder if you wanna give that a try if you havent already

#88 ·
I was going make one myself, maybe. I think i will just open up the inside fender well a bit so i can get more cool air to the intake. I can't make up my mind yet.

I do know I'm getting quite anxious for a lift pump, but want to build my trans first so i don't damage her to bad.

#90 ·
What tunes are you running?

#91 ·
IdahoRob stock trans safe tunes. 120 is the highest.

#92 ·
Is it just a DSP 2?

#93 ·
Dsp5.

#94 ·
Alright, so after i build my trans and get my lift pump, I'm sure I'll wanna upgrade the factory tie rods. Right now i have sleeves but how my truck sits now, even when i install the dhd brace i wander on a 4wd launch. Now, I ain't to sure if upgrading the tie rods will fix this or what, but I'd really like to stay as close to level as possible ( since my cv angles aren't to bad. Will try and get a picture here soon) and still be able to launch for fun on the street. Obviously i would lower for track use.

So my question is, will the upgraded tie rods handle street height (remember not to bad of angles) 4wd launches?

Also are there any cons to the 1 piece upgraded tie rods?

I tried searching but when i search on the site, the page just says loading. And I'd like to keep the answers in my thread.

Well going through my thread and realized I have none of my videos in here.
Tomorrow I will add some videos, along with how the nerf bars look plastidipped now. I also might install the DHD Brace and leave it on, but I am thinking about lowering my front diff with a kit I saw, and the only way I will do it is if I can still run the DHD Brace. Ive been told its not gonna work my forum members, but I don't see why it wont if the front diff is only lowered an inch and a half. So I will look at it tomorrow morning and see.

Nice truck, definitely a good base to start with. First piece of advice, don't go cheap with parts for these trucks, especially the LBZ, they don't like it. Temperamental as f*ck. I did the fuel shim kit, later opted for the plug, it made a difference in my low fuel rail pressure code. Also, don't be afraid of a lift pump, your stock trans tunes are made to support them on a stock trans. The lift pump is just there to supply the fuel, hence why you're throwing codes without one. I've got the AirDog II, it's a little noisy but works well and the customer support was an ease to work with.

The one cheap mod I can attest to is the intake heater delete, as well as PCV reroute. Replacing the boost tube for an EGR delete is also a big airflow difference on these LBZs, but it costs dinero.

#101 ·
Yeah I research every part before I put anything on my truck. I got ocd about it. And its not being afraid of the pump, its the cost for right now. Gotta save up some moolah! I had an Airdog2 on my lb7 and had no issues with it besides a blown fuse one time.
Right now my EGR is just blocked but maybe one day ill go with a full delete. Just gotta win that powerball and then my build thread would be AMAZING! haha

Here's the pictures of my plastidipped nerf bars! Used 2 cans to do both and went over them again with a few sprays after a week. Looks alright for the first time using that stuff.

Also added a little directory to the beginning of the thread for a quick reference point to somewhere. :)

Hopefully I can update this thread more often now.

Went out Monday night and played with my brothers GoPro, once he gets the videos to me I'll share em on here. Was alot of fun. Also if everything goes right, I'll be plastidipping my wheels this weekend and may also cut off a little sheet metal in my inner fender by my air box. Also just ordered a donaldson filter as the ones i have are quite old.

#106 ·
Got my Donaldson filter in the mail the other day.

Besides that, today I did nothing productive to the truck. I am going to install the Donaldson filter next fuel tank or the one after that to see if i notice any fuel mileage increases since i still have a blue Donaldson in the housing that I'm pretty sure hasn't been replaced.

#107 ·
Also played around with Photoshop to see what my wheels and toolbox would look like plastidipped. Well here's what i came up with.

If i did plastidip my wheels, I'd wanna do something like that, but i do like how stock wheels give off a more sleeper look.

I do wanna have a black toolbox though, and even though plastidip isnt the best way to achieve that, it'll at least give me an idea if Im gonna like it or not. So i figured I'd plastidip and then if I like it, I'll bedliner it.

Thoughts?

I'm actually a big fan of painting those stock GM 8 lug wheels black but leaving the center cap untounched. Creates a cop cap kind of look, but not in a bad way. Although I'd advise not plastidipping them and just getting them powder coated in a more glossy black, flat color rims are super tough to keep clean and they'd look far better with a glossy black rather than a plastidip flat black.

Then again, someone told me that plastdip now sells glossy paint colors, so you could try that, and it wouldn't be permanent unlike a powder coating.

By the way, real nice truck. I love the silver birch metallic with the cab clearance lights. Looks awesome. Good luck with the lift pump and built trans!

#109 ·
Sure will!

Thanks man! I appreciate it. And thats interesting to hear. I dont wanna lose mpg when i switch intake set ups in the future.

Also i wish i woulda kept my username easy like yours, haha

#112 ·
Well Im going from a old blue Donaldson to a new white Donaldson. So fuel mileage I'm sure will increase a bit going from an old filter to a new filter at least I'd assume. I was eventually going to go with an S&B kit as they look great, but if the Volant systems use the bue Donaldson i may reconsider in the future.

Thanks bud, been following yours for a little while now. You got a great thread there. Im actually trying to get mine to be more like yours, haha. I hardly ever update it. But its tough when i hardly ever modify the truck anymore because of time restraints and now i have a wife and mortgage and responsibilities.

Still i have plans for a built trans and track times this summer if i can afford it and have the time.
