Mine was great, never any issues and after having it on a while if you switch back to stock setting you can really feel the loss of power.

No MPG gains but Banks never claimed you would get any, mine MPG were bad just from the tires and lift.

To get the full fun factor you really have to pair with a pedal commander or a pedal monster.

So the idash can now do Mobil regens?
Yes sir, mobile and stationary.
Just so you know, the mobile activates on the NEXT key cycle. Not instant. Pretty sure it's the truck computer though and not the iDash. So, if you're like me, and forget to activate it on the iDash when you get to work in the morning, when I go to leave and want it to start on that specific drive home, I toggle it on the iDash, cycle the key off then fire up.

I need to order an iDash and start datalogging to track my current regens for a few months, then install a Derringer and track the same thing to see how it does. I already track every tank of fuel, so that wouldn't change.

@Melonhead1102 , do you record what the truck tells you for MPG every tank?

So, now that you guys have had your Derringers for a bit now, what feedback do you have?

Do you notice more frequent regens?

Any service needs potentially related to running the Derringer? (I anticipate not, since Banks seems to have his act together)

I doubt anyone is seeing any mileage gains due to the added fun factor. But have you noticed a severe drop in mileage?
Same as Viper.

Buy the PedalMonster first ... best bang for the buck getting rid of the dead pedal. You will not feel the performance gain with the Derringer like you will with the Pedal Monster. However, if you turn the performance settings up too high on the PedalMonster, your regens will increase significantly.

My second purchase would be the iDash ... the increased data visibility, the ability to see & clear codes, the ability to force a mobile or manual regens, and more ... makes this device priceless in my opinion.

Now for the Derringer. Banks was smart taking their time performing the proper R&D before releasing this product. It is optimized to add extra power yet stays within the safe limits of the L5P. The Derringer has failsafes built in so the truck reverts to stock settings if any issues occur, basically becoming a pass-thru device. The fail-safes were important to me since we RV long distances. As for fuel mileage, depends on the Derringer performance setting. Honestly, I never experienced any increase in fuel mileage. However, if I stay in the stage 3 performance setting (midway between stock and highest setting), I enjoy a mild performance increase without any change in fuel mileage, nor any increase in regen frequency. However, if you run in stage 6 (the highest performance setting), you will see an increase in regen frequency, albeit not as much increase as the PedalMonster cranked to the highest settings.

Side Note: Once I installed my 4 inch differential drop lift kit and 35 inch tires, I quit looking at fuel mileage. No matter what settings I use, I lost 3 mpg around town and 4 mpg on the highway. Believe I could get 1 or 2 mpg back by properly re-gearing the truck for 35’s. But American Axle Manufacturing (AAM) decided to weld the ring gear to the carrier on all 2019 and newer GM 9.25” front differentials, and no one offers an aftermarket carrier yet for our trucks, so I am stuck with the stock 3:73 gears until an aftermarket solution hits the market. So I have quit looking at fuel mileage and keep all of my performance products turned up all the way, which makes up for the lost power to bigger tires, and also makes my truck more fun to drive. But honestly, I am in regen 3 to 5 times more often than the stock settings.

Thank you for your assessment recap. I'm not concerned with mileage other than simply knowing what it is. If I needed fuel economy I wouldn't be driving my truck every day.

I drive a lot of shorter trips, though, and regen frequency is what I'm most concerned with. I would like this truck to last me a good stretch of time so I'm wanting to take care of the emissions system as best I can while still having some fun.

Definitely want to watch loading of the DPF because of short trips ... which is where the iDash comes in.

iDash has a soot % that I watch ... my truck starts a regen right at 100% ... then burns the soot level down to approximately 10% or less. As you pointed out, short trips negatively effect completion of the DPF regen cycle. Thanks to the iDash, I also noticed the regen cycle will turn off if you are sitting at a stoplight too long. Then there is a delay before the regen cycle continues after you leave the stoplight. So if you are going stoplight to stoplight, the regen cycle may not have enough time to start up again, causing loading of the DPF to continue with no regen cycle.

Was sitting at the tire shop when a similar L5P owner mentioned his DPF was being replaced at only 7,000 miles. He only drives a few miles to work each day with several stoplights. He must have also ignored the DIC message that told him to drive the truck at a constant speed for a certain amount of time. At the dealership they verified his DPF loading was over 200%. They tried to do a stationary / service / forced regen to remove the soot from the DPF, but I guess it was too far gone, so they had to replace it. Luckily it was covered under warranty. Guy said he is getting rid of his L5P for a gasser because he wants a truck that he does not have to babysit, his exact words. Amazing how some people buy a vehicle that is not fit for their daily driving needs, and even worse, don’t understand the technology and caveats of a DPF / DEF system.

So you are spot on taking care of your DPF system, which is quite expensive to replace. Highly recommend investing in an iDash, that way you can monitor DPF loading and the regen cycles.

Hello all, bringing this thread back a bit. Hopefully most of you are still following it. I have a pedal monster on the way, and I'm curious as to what some of you have for settings for everyday driving. I'm especially interested in those of you that have both the derringer and pedal monster installed. I currently run with the Derringer in level 3. I realize that it will mostly depend on my personal preference, but I'm interested in a good starting point. Thanks in advance...

All,

New to the forum but I have the banks Intake & Exhaust and was debating getting the Derringer, Idash & Pedal Monster installed along with the new diff cover. Had a few questions:

*Has anyone rune this unit for any sizable period of time and can they comment on whether they have seen any issues with the 6 Speed Allison?

*In the event that the Tranny does have an issue was there a fix? After market torque converter etc???

*What are the different power setting levels?

*If there is anyone who installed the derringer and had trepidation, how did you work in through in your mind to take the leap of faith related to potential warranty issues?

Thanks

Is that about 30 hp? I haven't read through the whole manual yet.
Sounds about right, the max increase is supposed to be 60HP (with a CAI though). I don't think you're supposed to tow at the max setting. Can't remember where I read it.

Hello and welcome fellow High Country Jersey owner. ;)

No issues so far for me (knocks on wood). Daily driven on level 3. Only about 4 months for me so far. Trans does relearn a bit once you get it set.

As far as a fix, well if you hurt the trans is probably going to be the clutches, so that's a rebuild with some upgrades. I would tend to think that you'd have to be beating on it hard to get to that point though. Like driving around every day at level 6 and using the pedal as an on/off switch.

With an iDash, your settings are 1-6. 1 is stock (no performance increase), 6 is max increase. If you go the cheap route and just get the switch, your settings are 1,3, and 6. The iDash is worth it though IMO.

Honestly, you just have to accept the risk. Someone on here had an injector issue with the tuner installed. First dealer said "we're not working on it with your tuner installed". He got extremely lucky in that dealer didn't flag his VIN. He removed the tuner, and went to another dealer. Truck was repaired under warranty. I will say this, disconnect both batteries when you install the tuner. Do not cut corners. The computers on these trucks are never truly off.

I run Derringer Level 3 and PedalMonster City Mode, Level 10 to keep regens at a decent frequency.

When you have your PedalMonster in Sport or Track mode you will see a significant rise in regen frequency / soot loading.

Don’t get me wrong ... when I see a Ford or Dodge diesel roll up next to me at a stoplight with an attitude ... I simply adjust the Derringer to Level 6 and the PedalMonster to Track Mode (still on Level 10).

That’s usually the last I see of them except in my rear view mirror ... unless of course they have a significantly modified truck.

The PedalMonster seat-of-the-pants performance increase will make you grin every time you hit the accelerator ... but you will also see your regen frequency increase.

My Pedal Monster, Derringer, & Idash is i the process of being installed.
For you guys that tow. What do you put the Derringer on?
Same as HDRolling ... Level 3 when towing.

Wasn’t paying attention towing and was still in level 6. Was giving it the onion coming up Mountain Pass in California toward Vegas with our travel trailer in tow and had an over-pressure injection diagnostic code pop up on the gauge cluster. Was able to clear it with no other issues ... but that was the last time I towed using Level 6.

Proved that day Bank’s protection system ain’t fool-proof.

Pedal monster delivered today. Damnit, is it the weekend yet? I feel the need, the need for speed! 🤣🤪

Pedal Monster is a quick 30 minute install with some zip ties.

No reason to wait for the weekend. 😉

The performance improvement taking off from a stoplight will make you grin ear to ear.

Many Cummins and Powerstrokes have fell victim to my PedalMonster taking off from a stoplight.

I look forward to your product review once it’s installed.

My only recommendation is to always be extra careful not to break any of the plastic connectors that secure the electrical wire connections.

Best bang for the buck regarding performance improvement in my opinion.
