What it looks like

Mock-up

Blue Loctite on FASS-to-frame connections

These are the fittings that come with the unit. 1/2" fuel line disconnect tool.

Template for new location drilling

Image

Tools needed for drilling. Space requirements dictate some sort of 90° drill. Either an attachment or single purpose like mine works. I matched the 3/8" Grade 8 hardware for the new holes.

Image

Obviously I stepped up to the 3/8" bit. Think it took 5 bits, broke multiple 1/16" trying to get pilot holes exactly right.

Image

File it down nice and smooth once you're done.

Image

New bolt connection configuration. I shoved a rubber washer between the frame bracket & vertical hanger.

Bracket that needs to be modified.

CHOP THAT HOE (in the words of someone else I know)

Image

Just for reference, the bottom line (with the file touching it) is the one that you are tapping into. After talking to a few other guys on here, seems like nobody knows what the hell the other line is for, and of course, crappy directions don't specify (there isn't even a picture of this in the FASS manual I got).

Peckerhead that sniffed my ass the whole time I was under the truck

Nice mock up. Thanks.

I keep getting distracted (very common problem for me) from actually finishing that bracket

I really need some aftermarket UCAs & a bigger drop for front diff. If I could keep my current ride height & get flat angles, I would probably pee myself with satisfaction.

Back to the bracket tho, I took a closer look at that section of the frame, no need for strap on backside. We can make it work with existing connections.

Back to the other parts tho, has anyone done a 1.5" stock front diff drop with pictures? It looks like there is only 1 frame location that needs percussive maintenance, but I would like to hear that from someone who has actually done it.

Oh look, something shiny!! :bd03

jake has something, but he had to cut his frame..

its like when you install a true lift kit.... you have to cut the ear off the frame (where the diff Xmember bolts too) and that allows you to drop the diff down and not hit the frame, and then they supply a new one piece crossmember, that the LCA's bolt to on the outside

fun stuff :)

notch your frame, get some longer bolts, and cut some spacers

if your not doing crazy stuff offroad it could work and not have any issues..

Hey JWC, I seen in your thread you have also mounted your Fass in this location, is it really necessary to cut the top section of that plate off as you did on your truck? Wont the pump hang fairly low in this spot and be at high risk of getting taken out by something? How hard did you guys find the install?? I have been waiting for a couple months now to use a buddies shop with a vehicle lift but he's so busy I am not sure when we will be able to get my truck in, and I may have some free time this Sunday to install it but I would have to install it in the driveway. I installed the exhaust system in my gravel driveway and it wasn't to fun but I wasn't sure how hard it would be installing this lift pump.

What's up Corey

It's not necessary to chop that bracket, even though I did

The installation was only difficult when I was trying to install it in the location fass recomended

The filters hang a little lower than the frame (like not much at all) but the lift pump will eventually be moved to the passenger side frame rail above the exhaust with a cover (that has a drain valve-and a drain tube just in case, which will divert away from the exhaust); plus some exhaust wrap for that section of the exhaust :) plus its a mall crawler

It's easy on a lifted truck installing it, especially when I could sit-up in the rear fender messing with fass's recommended location

Just look at what you need to do under the truck and review the instructions and it'll be easy

That's a good idea Jeff, I look forward to see what you come up with! I wouldn't mind installing it in the location recommended by Fass I just don't like the look of being able to see the filters hanging there in that spot. The bracket I was talking about was actually the one under the truck, (where you cut that little top section out.) Mines pretty much a mall crawler to, I would just be worried if I hit a ****, or get into deep snow in the winters and ruin them filters. How is your Fass running? It seems very quiet compared to some people, I hope I have the same luck haha. I know you have the CAT adapter in the stock fuel filter location, so are you running a smaller micron filter up there?

#10 ·
All depends on whether you use the stock brackets or fab a new one. I disagree with JW, I think it is necessary to chop that hoe, only because I tried to install mine without cutting and it wasn't gonna happen.

I mean, you very well could shove a bolt through there and wrench them down, but the mounts on the actual pump frame are need to sit about .75" in front of the bracket face. If you install it without cutting, you'll just bend the support frame and force fit.

Should have mine relocated to a new location sometime within the next 3 weeks.

#12 ·
Corey,

Is still running good :)

No issues over here!! Still got the Cat 1R-0750 on the stock head , and it's a 2 micron :)

I am waiting on OP to come up with a bracket since I have helped fuel a little curiosity for him to maybe move his :)

But if we get another plasma at work I'll try to cut something up and get a simple mount made, because your right, even though it's a mall crawler doesn't mean something else couldn't hit it staying on the road!!

#13 ·
Oh really where are you thinking of mounting the lift pump now? I might take a look under the truck tomorrow if I get time and see if there are any other good mounting locations for the pump and if I can find a good spot I will try and fab something up at work.

#14 ·
Hey Jeff,

So I have been under the truck for a while trying to figure out where I should mount this lift pump. I don't mind where you guys have mounted yours, if I do mount it there I would probably make a guard to help protect it. I also took a look on the passenger side of the truck where you also mentioned about mounting above the exhaust. I will attach a couple pics of kind of what I was able to come up with. This is just using the stock bracket that came with the fass. Sorry the pictures kind of suck, I was just messing around to see what could be done, if I mounted it here I would fabricate some guard around the filter area to hopefully help keep the heat off the filters, and like you said wrapping the exhaust would be a good idea. What do you guys think of this? It allows me to adjust the pump up and down, and also left and right.

Looks good!! Very nice work :thumb

I saved a piece of 16 gauge sheet metal from work today (30"x30") so when I move mine I can use the sheet to build a cover with a fluid diverting tube :)

Good paint skills, the sign of a committed individual.

Your sketch makes sense, I just wanted to see good shots so I can get some dimensions off of it. I am gonna be the guinea pig for a fabricated bracket, but I want to do it right the 1st try and hopefully can distribute them to fine folks (like yourself) on this forum at cost.
I need to move mine!!

4 micron actually
Alligator and nicktane both show it as a 2 micron :(

I've seen the threads talking about that filter, about it being 2 or 4

That looks good, but I would like to see better pictures of the frame attachment and how it looks from outside the vehicle. Is it visible?

#17 ·
I will try and get you better pictures of the frame attachment tomorrow, I am at work right now so I drew you a little sketch in paint, hopefully it's not confusing it's hard to design the bracket in paint lol. But I used the brackets that came with the lift pump and came up with this. In the picture you will see bolt #1 & #2. What I did was removed the stock exhaust hanger that was mounted to the frame of the truck with 2 bolts and used those bolts to attach the bracket to the truck frame. I cut the one section of the fass bracket off. (Same one you guys did... CHOP THAT HOE)
Right now there is 3" from the exhaust to the closest part of the filter, I can also raise the pump about another inch to get me some more clearance and if I machine down the spacers on the bracket or remove them completely I will also gain more clearance. I am not sure how hot the exhaust gets, but if I wrap it with exhaust shield and build my bracket it might be alright. How do you guys think the pump will operate since it will be on the other side of the truck? And with this location the lift pump is not visible at all from the outside of the truck and very unlikely to be hit by anything.

Got my Fass installed last night. Thanks OVERWATCH_09 for the idea I sure didn't want filters hanging down below my box. Here are some pics of it done. I even installed a piece of mudflap in front of the filters for some protection.

Good idea! I like the location

#23 · (Edited)
I had my diesel shop install mine on the cooler bracket as well. Shop owner said what he liked best about that location, was that I shouldn't have a problem with anyone stealing it. He said he worries about theft more than anything when you can see the filters below the truck.
Fab'n up a shield this week. I'll post up some pics when done.

#24 ·
That's a good idea u put the cooler back on

#25 ·
The 12 doesn't have the cooler... LOL that was the shop owners first comment. What about the cooler? I said there isn't one... HMMM?

Heres some pics of a skid/shield I had fabbed up.

That's where I put my fass at too on my 15. I don't like the location where they want you to put it at by the wheel well. Looks terrible and crap can hit it.

My Fass has been mounted on the passenger side about the exhaust for about 5 months now with zero issues. I had made up a guard to help protect it from the exhaust but never did install it yet, but there hasn't been any issue with temps from the exhaust.
