I have an 07 dually how much of a difference in ride did these 'Sulastic Rubber Springs' provide looks like a nice feature

Its somewhat unfortunate that royal purple has to be purple. Looks like burnt fluid. The PS fluid I used was clear, brake fluid- clear, fresh engine oil- light tan, tranny fluid-red. Everything Royal Purple- Purple. I have the stuff in tranny from the PPO, and when I changed the external filter when I first got the truck I was like wtf?!?! oh, right, it's supposed to be dark.....And once its in there, any clear fluid you add or flush with is going to be tainted by the residual purple thats left in the system. Oh well.
What color is the AMS ps fluid? probably clear.

I am about to do this tomorrow as I just threw in a used gearbox to replace the junked one it had in it. Then a brake flush, and maybe diffs and tcase too. Man, these trucks sure take alot of our time! Not to mention I still need to put in my Isspro gauges and airdog I just got.

old thread but i tried this and now it makes a noise when i turn to the left. anyone know how i can fix this? it didnt make any noise before

Is the fluid at the right level? Stupid question. I know

yes it is. i tried flushing another gallon thru it and it still does it. i used valvoline

Going to do this flush this weekend - at low speeds with my 38x15.5 tires, the steering feels like it did in a miata with no power steering!

:popcorn sub'd

Just replaced/flushed my leaking hydro boost this weekend (a big thanks to 'Hook'em_Horns!' and his flush/replacement posts :GoodJob).

I used a Cardone rebuilt unit from Autozone ($195 out the door, hint ask for the facebook discount) and Purple Royal synthetic. What a difference in both braking and steering.

great DIY project with by the numbers detail, i will put this on my to due list.

I just did this using AmSoil from and MadJack Hook'em_Horns! directions. Super easly, it took me about 30 minutes to complete and was amazed at the difference in steering and braking. I had right at 50,000 miles on the BG 332 fluid that was previously used and the difference is staggering.

My ps went out at 31,000 miles and replaced under warrenty, now at 77,000 miles and hydro boost and ps are out...no warrenty and GM wants 1300.00 to fix...not so fast, I call GM service advisor and complain and get them to cover 900.00 of the cost. :)

So PS fluid was the last fluid in the truck that I needed to change since I bought her about a year ago. Today was finally that day and all I can say is that I wish I would have done it sooner. What came out appeared to be 120k pitch black power steering fluid. It took a little over a gallon to fully flush out the old fluid and produce a mostly clear fluid.

PLUS..

I did a full brake line swap to stainless steel a few months ago and was left with a little bit of a spongy brake pedal. After flushing the PS fluid today not only did I regain my smooth steering that I grew to love but also got back my rock solid brake pedal. If I even think about stopping the truck, it is already stopped. I cant wait to tow my horse trailer in a couple of weeks to feel the improvement in braking.

I highly recommend spending the half hour and 20 bucks to flush your PS fluid if you haven't yet :neener

I did the flush too and this process is as simple as stated and what a difference it makes to the smoothness of the steering and brake action. Thanks Hook EM horns. Great write up.

I did the flush and didn't notice a difference until now, problem is now it feels like I have no power steering at slow speeds and it take a lot harder press of the pedal to slow down.

That happened to me with the pedal at first then I realized that I had let the level go a little too low in the reservoir. I just re flushed and was careful about how much I let out at a time. Perhaps that might have happened?

I checked it after it was done and level was good. I put about 20k on it before it started acting funny. Level is still good.
